Do you have a long car neyney planned with kids in the back? FamilyPoint Cymru’s hints and tips will help relieve those long family car journeys.
#1 Plenty of treats
Pack plenty of snacks, food and drink for the journey. This saves on the endless car stops.
#2 Have a conversation
The most valued conversations with your children always happen at mealtimes and during car journeys. Value this time with them and have some entertaining conversations during your journey. You’ll be surprised how time flies when you start to chat. Not sure where to start? Positive Parenting Connection have 40 questions that get kids talking. Here’s a couple to get you started:
- If you could design a t-shirt, what would you draw or write on it?
- What superpower would you want to have?
- If you could change your name, would you want to and what name would you choose instead
#3 Try a car DVD player
These can be a great way to keep your children entertained for part of your journey. So stock up on those DVDs but make sure that you limit their use to short periods at a time.
#4 Keep the atmosphere amicable
Children pick up on stress or frustration from adults. So it is best to try and plan your route ahead and avoid any adult disagreements during the journey.
#5 Play games and tell stories
I’m sure there are plenty of games that you remember playing as a child yourself. Even so, MiniTime has 10 games to play in the car that don’t cost a penny. If storytelling is more your thing then use your imagination to tell a story or two. Stylist collects the best 100 opening lines from children’s books if you’re wondering where to start…
#6 Backseat organisers
Backseat organisers are always useful to keep a few things to hand to keep children entertained. This will also save you stopping the car to reach for different things all the time.
