About Carmarthenshire Flying Start

Children aged 2-3 years, living in Flying Start areas are entitled to free part time childcare for 12.5 hours per week, which is equivalent to two and a half hours per day, Monday to Friday for 42 weeks of the year. This programme has expanded significantly in recent years.

They focus the service on children having a flying start in life, ready to start school, developing their language, emotional, physical and social skills. Through early identification of needs Flying Start aims to put support services in place to address those needs within the family.

It is a targeted programme now available in 12 geographical areas in the county. These are:

  • Betws in the Ammandford area
  • Bigyn
  • Burry Port Central
  • Carmarthen Town North
  • Carway
  • Dafen Llwynhendy and Bynea in the Llanelli area
  • Felinfoel
  • Garnant
  • Glanaman
  • Lakefield/Copperworks
  • Morfa
  • Pwll West/Maengwnne
  • Pantyffynnon (Ammanford)
  • Pembrey
  • Trimsaran and Richmond Park
