The Family Information Service

Support available with: Childcare / Information / Money / Parenting / Things To Do

The Family Information Service (FIS) is the first point of contact for local information and advice for parents and families.

They provide information and support about services including childcare (and costs), health, things to do, additional needs, education, parenting and more.

They can link you with groups in your area and expert advice and support services where needed.


Flying Start

Support available with: Health and Well-being / Parenting Support / Speech, Language and Communication / Childcare

Flying Start provides a range of services to families to help their children get the best start in life. 

If you live in a Flying Start area with a child under 4 years of age you are entitled to parenting support.

You can access free part-time childcare for 2-3 year olds, parenting support, enhanced Health Visiting service and support for your child’s speech, language and communication.


Families First

Support available with: Employment / Education / Health and Well-being / Money / Parenting

The Families First programme helps families, particularly those with low incomes, who need extra support. 

Bringing together organisations based on your circumstances they can help you to live in a safe and healthy home. 

They can help your family into work, through difficult circumstances, or if you are living in or at risk of poverty.  

There is a Families First delivery team in every local authority.


Supporting People

Support available with: Additional Needs / Disability / Health and Well-being / Homelessness / Housing

The Supporting People programme provides housing-related support to help people overcome challenges to living independently.

The programme works with you to prevent future difficulties by providing help as early as possible.
